About Currents
Currents Golf is a Melbourne-based software company building booking and operations technology for premium private golf clubs.
As an early-stage Australian technology company, we're building products that solve real operational challenges for golf clubs while creating better experiences for golfers. Every team member has the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the product, our customers, and the future of the business.
About the team
We're a small, ambitious team based in Melbourne. We move quickly, ship frequently, and work directly with customers to solve real problems.
This isn't a role where you'll spend months fixing bugs or implementing predefined tickets. You'll work closely with the founders, contribute to meaningful features from day one, and have the opportunity to influence both the product and our engineering culture.
Attributes we value
- Ownership and accountability
- Curiosity and a desire to keep learning
- Product thinking and customer empathy
- Clear communication and collaboration
- Comfort working in a fast-paced, evolving environment
- Pragmatism and a bias towards shipping
What you'll do
As a Software Engineer (Full Stack), you'll build software that's used every day by golf clubs across Australia. You'll work across the entire product - from user experience through to backend services, infrastructure, and deployment.
We're looking for someone with strong fundamentals, genuine curiosity, and evidence that they love building software. Whether that's through internships, professional experience, open source, or personal projects, we care far more about what you've built and how you think than the number of years on your resume.
This role is based in Melbourne.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and ship features across the full stack
- Take ownership of features from concept through to production
- Translate high-level product ideas into clean, maintainable software
- Work closely with the founders to solve customer problems and improve the product
- Write well-tested, maintainable code and participate in code reviews
- Debug, optimise, and continuously improve the platform
- Contribute to technical decisions and engineering best practices
Who you are
You're passionate about building products, not just writing code.
You enjoy understanding software end-to-end - from the user experience through to APIs, databases, cloud infrastructure, and deployment. You're comfortable taking ownership of your work and can independently turn high-level requirements into thoughtful technical solutions.
You thrive in environments with ambiguity. Rather than waiting for detailed specifications, you're excited by the opportunity to shape solutions, make decisions, and build software that has a real impact.
Minimum qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline
- 1-3 years of software engineering experience, including internships or graduate roles
- Strong software engineering fundamentals
- Experience building web applications using modern JavaScript or TypeScript
- Experience with frontend and backend development
- Familiarity with Git and collaborative development workflows
- Australian working rights
Preferred qualifications
- A substantial personal project, startup, or open-source contribution that demonstrates initiative and a passion for building software
- Experience working in a professional software engineering environment
- Experience with technologies such as React, Node.js, TypeScript, PostgreSQL, Vercel, or GCP
- Experience working in a startup or product-focused team
- Interest in golf and sports technology is beneficial but not mandatory
What we offer
- Competitive salary - $90,000 - $110,000 + superannuation
- Employee Share Option Plan (ESOP) - share in the long-term success of the company as we grow
- Hybrid working - flexibility to work from our inner-city Melbourne office and from home
- The tools you need - company laptop and all necessary equipment to do your best work
- Ownership from day one - real responsibility, direct access to the founders, and the opportunity to shape both the product and our engineering culture
- Fast career growth - learn quickly by working across the full stack, shipping regularly, and solving real customer problems
- Great team culture - regular team events and activities, customer visits, and a golf day here and there
Why join Currents?
Joining Currents means joining at a pivotal stage. You'll help shape the product, influence technical decisions, and play a meaningful role in the growth of the company. You'll work directly with the founders, ship features that customers use every day, and have the opportunity to accelerate your career in an environment where ownership and initiative are genuinely valued.
If you've built something you're proud of - a side project, startup, open-source contribution, or anything else - please include it in your application. We'd love to see what you've created.
